The Stained Glass Moon Phase Suncatcher with Star features the waning gibbous moon and is hand crafted of iridescent black and streaky white glass. The waning gibbous moon happens when the moon is between a 90 and 135 degree angle with respect to the Earth and Sun. So we are seeing more than half of the moon illuminated and less than half in shadow. The word gibbous refers to phases where the moon is more than half illuminated. The Waning Gibbous Moon Phase with Star is handcrafted using the copper foil (Tiffany) method. Each piece of glass is individually cut and ground to size, and the edges are dressed. The edges of each piece are wrapped in copper foil, which is then burnished. The glass pieces are soldered together, and the hangers and chain are affixed. After inspection and cleaning a copper patina is applied, and then polished. As the final step, each phase is thoroughly cleaned and waxed. The Moon measures 9" (from hanger to star) x 4"wideHang from a window or wall for ultimate viewing pleasure!
